A little something about me, Nancy:
I spent over a decade as an English Teacher and High School Counselor on Guam. (Yes, locals say “on Guam.”)
Soon after my daughter was diagnosed as being on the Autism Spectrum, I left teaching completely and she and I moved to San Diego.
I took classes (I really do love school) in Applied Behavioral Analysis in order to help my daughter, completing my ABA coursework through Florida Tech. I briefly worked for a local ABA company here in San Diego.
At some point during all this, I picked up some face paints and a brush. (It’s an interesting story, and if you ask me when there are no children around, I will tell you why I really did this.). At some point, people began to pay me to doodle on their children’s faces… and Fancy Nancy Faces was born. Side note: the name came from a former student.
I still take classes and go to conferences to continuously improve as a face painter. (Did I mention I like school?) My FAVORITE things to do are (1) speed painting–I love large events where I need to get through long lines and do 2-3 minute faces that still have the “ooh” factor; (2) Belly Paints; and (3) painting neurodivergent individuals.
I have worked with my daughter’s therapists for years to learn techniques that I now use when painting. Her Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Music Therapists, and Behavioral Therapists have all contributed and I love teaching others the little tricks I’ve picked up along the way.
I saw early on that many of the worksheets that were appropriate for my daughter’s skill level were NOT appropriate to her interests. So I began to create stories and worksheets for her. I drew cartoons of her going to the doctor and the zoo. I’ve been working at creating digital images of these worksheets to share with other parents.
At Fancy Nancy Faces, I am focused on providing quality face and body painting and party entertainment services with the highest levels of client satisfaction. My goal is to make YOU happy. The greatest compliment (other than a great review) is when a YOU tell me we made you look good by having us at your event.
